EDINBURGH

I quite enjoy travelling and seeing new places. So when a friend invited me to Edinburgh  several weeks ago, I jumped at the invitation and packed a bag or two. Do I want to go back? Absolutely! Especially if I get free accommodation for three nights again. It was perfect! Well, almost perfect.

The Scotland’s capital has some of the most breath-taking view I have seen. Restaurants and bars are cosy and offer top-notch customer service. The people seem to have a unique sense of humour and have I mentioned how the ice cream there taste better? The most amazing part of visiting Edinburgh is that the attractions are mostly within walking distance of each other. Admission into some of the magnificent sites is free plus you can see the most of them in two days! Hi there, if you travel on a budget.

I really enjoyed walking the famous princes street garden. Perfectly, situated between the old town and the new town, making it easy to assess most of the popular attractions. It is right across the Scottish National Gallery and a walking distance from the Edinburgh castle. The garden has amazing and historical monuments, rocks, lots of colourful spaces and a magnificent view of the Edinburgh castle.

The Holyrood park road is home to just as much joy as the Princes street. The array of hills, the queens palace, the Scottish parliament and a museum among other things.  Its easy to get lost in the beauty of this place.

Arthur’s seat is the most popular of the hills that form the most of the Holyrood. However, the Salisbury Crags seemed like an easier climb. So, of course, I opted to climb that instead of the Arthur’s seat. Is that a scaredy-cat move? Absolutely. But i did enjoy a beautiful view of the city.  In fact, people say the view from the Salisbury is better. I got the scare of my life coming back down from the top tho.

So here is a friendly advise for your first hike, wear hikers boot and DO NOT look down at moving objects when you are climbing back down. You are welcome! I did take a well deserved and long chill by the pounds in front of the Scottish parliament building after the climb.

 

 

 

 

 

Admission into the beautiful Scottish parliament building is free and you can even ask to seat in on a debate or committee meetings ; you have to book before hand tho, if that is the kind of thing you are into. The building is just so beautiful inside as it is outside. Stop by the cafe at the palace for an afternoon tea/champagne and freshly made bakes.

All that said, here is the list of things I think you should do when you go to Edinburgh.

• Definitely visit the Edinburgh Castle
• Spend some time at the Princes street garden
• Visit the  Scottish National Gallery
• Visit the Holyrood and while you are there, climb a hill, check out the parliament building, the palace and the gallery
• Get as much ice cream and whisky as you responsibly can.
